A few common environments teach a radar to fire early. Attention that came and went without much warning — warm, then gone, then warm again, on no schedule you could predict. Love that seemed to depend on being easy, good, useful — never quite unconditional. Or, simplest of all: a rejection or an ending that actually happened, and happened hard.
Different doors, same lesson: watch closely, don't get caught off guard again. In that environment, at that time, watching closely was the smart move — it may genuinely have kept you safer, or steadier, or more prepared. The radar wasn't wrong to learn it.
If you've done self-validation work before, you'll recognize the shape of this. A mind taught early that its feelings get dismissed often learns something else at the very same time: to expect the dismissal before it even arrives, and start protecting against it early. Rejection sensitivity is often that same wiring, aimed one step further out.
Here's the part that matters most: that setting was calibrated for a specific environment. Today's relationships may not be that environment — safer people, steadier attention, a version of you with more resources than you had then. But radars don't recalibrate automatically just because the weather changed. They keep the old setting until something teaches them the new one.
That's the whole project of this program — not erasing the history, and not blaming it either. Just teaching the instrument a new setting, on purpose, for the environment you're actually in now.
