Speed

Four small steps today: a few honest questions so we get you the right support, a check-in that measures the preoccupation (not your appearance), a map of how the loop shows up for you, and your checking log set up for tonight. No techniques yet — just the starting line, and one honest conversation about how to use this program well.

Welcome

If you're here, a part of how you look has probably taken over more of your life than you'd ever admit out loud. You check it in every mirror and window. You manage it, hide it, plan around it. You compare. Some days it decides whether you leave the house.

Here's the first thing, and it's the whole frame: this isn't vanity, and it isn't really about how you actually look. It's an attention system that got stuck zoomed all the way in on one feature — the feature at ten times magnification, the rest of you lost off the edges of the frame — plus a set of habits that keep it zoomed: mirror-checking, reassurance-seeking, camouflaging, comparing. We are going to retrain the attention and retire the checking.

One promise I'll keep the whole way: I will never tell you how you look, in either direction. Not because I'm dodging it — because "you look fine" is just reassurance, and reassurance is one of the exact habits that keeps the zoom locked. We don't argue with the mirror. We change what the mind does with it.

How the six weeks work

  • Short sessions, ten to fifteen minutes, about three a week. One idea or skill each.
  • A forty-five-second checking log — the engine of everything. How many times you checked, asked, compared, camouflaged, avoided; your distress; time lost. Never how you look.
  • A weekly review that reads your log and sets gentle, gradual reduction targets — never a cliff — and shows you the pattern that persuades: as the checking falls, the distress follows it down.

The most honest thing I'll say

When this distress runs deep, it responds best to a specialist — sometimes with medication — and it can carry real risk. So a few of today's questions are about your safety, plainly. Read this program as a strong companion and a real beginning, not the whole of your care. If it's taking a lot of your life, please do this alongside a person. That's what taking it seriously looks like.

Right now: a few questions, a check-in, your inventory, and your log for tonight.
